You Know the Night Time is the Right Time

The link between music and our minds is pretty powerful.  I love how music can instantly take you to past moments; flooding you with memories of a different place and time.  It’s really like time traveling and for the most part I don’t mind the destination.  Just don’t play Justin Timberlake’s Till the End of Time unless you want to see me hysterically cry — long story.

One of my earliest memories of hearing feel good music was when my brothers and I would listen to the radio with my dad late at night waiting for my mom to come home from night school.  The station was Bedtime Magic with David Allan Boucher (Magic 106.7 Greater Boston Area).  His voice is smooth like velvet — If you are ever find yourself in the Bean late at night make sure you tune in; he plays a great selection of adult contemporary, classic soft rock, jazz and modern favorites.  (You can also listen to a live stream from your computer here.) If you look at my iTunes library it is so eclectic and random but each song can bring a smile to my face stirring up some memory. When I hear Rod Stewart’s Have I Told You Lately that I Love You I picture my dad making us dinner sipping on his Heineken.  Or when I hear Richard Marx’ Everything I Do, I remember peeking around my mother’s bedroom door staring at her as she did her hair and hoping I too would be beautiful like her when I grew up.  But when I hear Ray Charles’ You Know the Night Time Is the Right Time, I fondly reminisce of watching the Cosby Show with my brothers.  You remember that episode don’t you?  It was the 49th wedding anniversary for the grandparents and the entire Cosby family performs the song with little Rudy doing her famous solo –“Babayyyyyyyyy!”  It’s classic.  It’s good music.

When I watched this I could not stop cracking up.  Who didn’t want to be a Cosby Kid?!
