Two Fridays ago was Black Friday — and as I got off work in the wee hours in the morning (also known as 0 dark hundred hours in nursing terminology) I was resolute on driving straight home. I had no intention of hitting the crowded malls filled with grumpy-quick-to-cop-an-attitude-deal crazed people overloaded on tryptophan and sleep deprived. Bad combination. Besides I thought I had everything I needed. But then I found myself looking like a mad woman – crazed even — as I stared back at tired puzzled eyes, tousled hair (not the sexy kind) and my nursing scrubs thrown about on the floor of my dressing room. I fell victim to the ads from the mass emails found in my inbox and I caved.
I say the following as I shake my fist dramatically in the air — Oh how I hate you, Black Friday!!! I was perfectly content on sailing through these last 2 months of the year fully focused on saving money for my travel plans in 2014. But Black Friday has a way of making you think you are a genius — mistakenly thinking that you have the upper hand with deals like 50% off already reduced items or $300 iPad minis. Winning? I think not. Especially when I felt more drained and exhausted by the time I got home. I can admit I got suckered and suckered good but I pray that next Black Friday I have a little more consumer fortitude and resist the offers that engulf my inbox. Hindsight is always 20/20.
This look features two items I purchased at my local Torrid’s Black Friday Sale. I actually didn’t do so bad in store. My Achilles’ is online deals. And to think I told myself that I was only going to take a look…
