Hot Girl Summer is upon us and that means the suns out and all the skins out!
This past year, while in quarantine I learned to overindulge and go extra on ordinary “ladyscaping” tasks like shaving my legs. Before, I wouldn’t give much thought about shaving my legs.
I mean what else is there to it? You have hair and a razor. Boom, right? Wrong!
I would just quickly shave in the shower just with body wash!
I cringe at the thought. Who is she even?
Light a candle? Why not. Ask Alexa to play so ’90s r&b? Absolutely!
So no when it comes to shaving these legs, I give them the royal treatment. Here are my tips and favorite products to get the job done.
Oh and do yourself a favor and wash your bed linen too! It’s the extra extra you need because when you slip into bed with these soft smooth legs you will feel like the ultimate bad and boujee queen.
CLEANSE
Soft hydrated skin means that body hair will break away from your skin easier when it’s time to shave.
To prep, I like using a super hydrating moisturizing body washes to cleans my body. Never dry shave; it will irritate your skin and cause a whole list of other problems. It’s best to shave at the end of a warm shower or after soaking for a few minutes in the bath.
EXFOLIATE
Please don’t skip this step! Not only is it important to prevent razor bumps but it’s a game changer to get the smoothest and most long-lasting shave ever!
After exfoliating, your razor will glide over your skin like buttah honey! That’s because you have removed the surface level deadskin that can get clogged up between your razor blades.
Exfoliate with a gentle moisturizing scrub BEFORE you shave and not AFTER.
SHAVING OIL
I’ve opted to use a shaving oil versus a cream because I find them more hydrating. You want to restore moisture the the soon to be newly revealed skin. Don’t skimp on product either, trust.
It’s important to lather up generously and well to not only restore moisture loss but to protect your skin. Using plenty of product is like another having another level of protection from nicks, cuts and hair pulls which will prevent itchy God forsaken razor bumps!
RAZOR
Okay so you’ve done all this prep work, you can’t just use any dollar razor. You want one that’s going to bend and curve with your body. I absolutely love this one. I get the closest shave every time and I never get nicked!
a miracle
SHAVE THE RIGHT WAY
There is an art to shaving and knowing which direction to glide your razor is a major game changer in getting smooth and long-lasting results.
- For Underarms: Shave in all directions (up, down, left, right and diagnonal) to make sure you’re getting all of the hair.
- For Legs: Starting right about the ankle, shave up against hair growth.
- Bikini Area: Shave in the direction of hair growth first then shave against the grain. *BE CAREFUL!
MASK
Now I’m new to masking scene; not my face of course but my body. And since discovering body masks, I’m like why didn’t I do this sooner?! They are chock full of skin loving ingredients that will seal in the hydration, keep the skin soft and supple and calm down any irritation. It’s the perfect way to pamper your skin after essential causing trauma.
MOISTURIZE
After you’re done shaving, pat your skin dry, don’t rub. I personally like to body cream while my skin is still damp to lock in more moisture.
Whatever you do, don’t skip moisturizing. You want to restore the moisture that is loss by shaving. This will keep your skin happy, health and of course soft.
For extra enjoyment, get you some fresh linens for your bed. There is nothing better than getting into bed with clean sheets and freshly shaven legs!
