You guys probably already know that I love to wear things the fashion world declares I shouldn’t. Well, “if you don’t know now you know.” Yes, that was a Biggie reference. I mean what gives with trying to hold me back from wearing flashy patterns or bold colors? I guess they only mean well and are only trying to help when magazines tell me to stick to trusty and forgiving black clothing. Thanks, but no thanks.
You tell me I can’t or shouldn’t wear something and the little rebel lady in me is going to want to prove you wrong in a big curvy way. Take in case horizontal stripes. Time and time again it’s advised to stay clear from them because they don’t flatter a bigger body. Sticking only to vertical lines will be the only way to elongate and thus flatter our chubby silhouettes. I’m sorry and with all do respect — whomp whomp! I can wear a trash bag and rock it if I choose to ( I don’t, but just roll with the idea) but as long as I am happy and confident in my look why should I be criticized or shamed into thinking it’s not fashionably appropriate.
The platform of blogging for the curvy woman left me vulnerable and exposed to a lot of critics — some good and kind and some not so much. I knew this came with the territory but any hateful or negative comments only reaffirms to me that although plus size fashion has come a long way we still have a lot of work to do when it comes to acceptance. I’m so inspired by other curvy fashionistas that have opened themselves up to criticism for choosing to wear what they want. Here a few of my faves: Nicolette Mason, Kiah of From the Rez to the City and GabiFresh. Check out their blogs for fierce fashion and style inspiration but I will warn you… their fashion choices are not for the timid of heart it takes a confidence like no other!

I loved this outfit!!! It looks so chic on you…and that pop of color in the bag is awesome. Oh my, and those shoes!
I think style “rules” really aren’t — in fact, we should just abolish the word rules and replace it with a different one — maybe “guidelines”…or “ideas”…or “inspirations.”
If someone wore too snug stripes from head to toe and they stretched out across the widest parts of the body it could have the potential to be unflattering on just about anyone….but well tailored horizontal stripes always look super. And that band of them on your outfit hit exactly the right note 😀
I love the Rebel in ya. . . .that’s why I’m following you via bloglovin!
