CRUISING THROUGH GLACIER BAY NATIONAL PARK WITH PRINCESS CRUISES

There were so many “wow” moments during my Alaskan Cruise with Princess but one that definitely took the cake was our day sailing through the majestic and awe inspiring Glacier Bay National Park.

Princess Cruises is one of the few cruise lines that has the exclusive privilege to sail through these ancient waters.  It was such a treat to see these natural world wonders up close.  Glacier Bay National Park is protected under UNESCO World Heritage Site and covers millions of acres and containing seven tidewater glaciers along with mountains and deep fjords.

It was like being in my own personal episode of National Geographic.  We started our day early once the park rangers on board Majestic started commentary on the bridge as we sailed into Glacier Bay. We got to enjoy around 8-hours in Glacier Bay National Park cruising by spectacular scenery with one hour spent at the face of Margerie Glacier.  This was absolutely breathtaking and you heard a lot of “wow”s echo along the balconies.

Park rangers are also available on the open deck to answer any questions you may have which I thought was so neat.

I had an amazing view right from my balcony so I ordered breakfast to our stateroom and enjoyed it as I took in the otherworldly views.  It’s not everyday you see a world wonder with your morning coffee.

It can be quite chilly so make sure you wear comfortable layers as you take in the views from your stateroom or on the top deck.  I also suggest bringing binoculars so you can zoom in and see the texture of the glaciers up close.  You will also be completely astounded by the roaring sounds of rushing water escaping the glaciers.  It’s quite a sight to see.

4 REASONS TO BOOK A MEDALLIONCLASS CRUISE TO ALASKA

Princess Cruises, Alaska Cruise, Majestic Princess Alaskan Cruise, MedallionClass Cruise Ships, PNW, Black Women Traveling, Black Women Hiking

This post is sponsored by Princess Cruises; all opinion are my own.

Okay, be honest.  If you followed along my Alaskan cruise over the summer did you find yourself wanting to visit Alaska to?

I don’t blame you if you did.

I honestly didn’t even know I wanted to go to Alaska until this opportunity came up and I knew two days in that this was my favorite cruise destination I’ve ever been too!  Princess Cruises  MedallionClass Ships also take visiting The Great Land of Alaska to another level.  Let me tell you 4  reasons why you have to book a Princess Cruises Medallion Class Alaskan Cruise.

IT’S THE BEST WAY TO VISIT ALASKA

There is something about cruising that makes traveling to new destinations convenient but also completely and unexpectedly adventurous.  I personally would not know where to start if I were to plan a trip to Alaska on my own.

Having Princess Cruises navigate these ancient waters to this magical place helps you to discover the most amazing towns and ports you would never see on your own.  Some of the ports are literally only accessible by water or plane.

You get to explore for the day and return to your stateroom and it’s off to the next adventure.

MedallionClass ships also make embarking and disembarking on port days so easy.  Wearing my OceanMedallion I was just a tap a way from starting my day or returning to Majestic Princess for the night.  It’s super convenient and a hands free way to show identification.

Your OceanMedallion also is your stateroom key, credit card and allows you to order food along with the app from anywhere you are on the ship.

EXPERIENCE OTHER WORDLY VIEWS

Alaska is called The Great Land for good reason.  The landscape is unlike any other place in the world.  At times I felt I was on another planet.  From the moment we left Seattle and started sailing up the Canadian coast I started and did not stop saying, “Wow!”

‘Wow” became the unofficial official word of the trip.  Taylor and I couldn’t help but be repeatedly taken aback from each and every amazing view we got to see from our stateroom balcony, which was pretty often.

Oh and I highly suggest booking a balcony room for your Alaskan cruise. You’ll have the best seat in the house.

I learned that Alaska is home to the Tongass Rainforest; the largest in the United States and getting to see some of it up close and very personal, was life changing.

My all time favorite view from this trip that literally moved me to tears was during our day sailing though Glacier Bay National Park.  Princess Cruises is the only cruise line allowed to sail these waters.  It’s an experience I will never forget and one you can only get on a MedallionClass Alaskan Cruise.

Getting to see these ancient glaciers upclose got me in my feels.  Like if you really think about it; the waters we were sailing through were coming from this glacier that has been around for thousands of years.

Alexa, play Louis Armstrong’s What a Wonderful World.

I was a big sap just crying over our beautiful balcony breakfast and it was absolutely the best day ever.

EXPERIENCE ACTIVITIES YOU’VE NEVER DONE BEFORE

Sailing to Alaska in itself was a dream but to then get to experience The Great Land up close and personal was a whole other level of bucket list goals.

I don’t know about you but I absolutely love traveling but absolutely hate planning out an itinerary.   It’s the bane of my traveling existence.

But it’s literally smoothing sailing with Princess Cruises Excursion Team.  A MedallionClass cruise offers some of the best excursion options and they take the worry and planning out from your vacation.

I always appreciate the amazing excursions team because they have managed to connect with the best each port has to offer.  From whale watching on a private yacht to hiking 350ft incline on the Chilkoot Trail to a bonafide Lumberjack Show; the options and fun to be had are endless.

And after having an amazing day off the ship, comeback to explore all of the activities and shows that your MedallionClass cruise has to offer.  You can plan out your day with the MedallionClass app, reserve a spot at a popular event and use the portals that are located throughout the ship to survey other events like Stargazing, Movies Under the Stars, comedy shows and my favorite the musical performances.

RELAX WHILE AT SEA

There is no doubt that you’re in for a lot of adventure when cruising to Alaska with Princess Cruises but that doesn’t mean there won’t be any opportunities to enjoy some R&R.

I personally always look forward to visiting the Lotus Spa and the super exclusive Enclave.  Taylor and I were there on every sea day and it was the best way to spend some time recovering from hiking the trails in Skagway.

The Enclave is equipped with everything you need for a chill day at sea including a hydro pool, aromatherapy showers, hot stone beds and dry and wet sauna.

Also ordering breakfast to enjoy while we were sailing through Glacier Bay was awe inspiring and relaxing.

PRINCESS CRUISES RETURN TO SERVICE: EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Princess Cruises Return To Service, Alaskan Cruise, Skagway Alaska
This post is sponsored by Princess Cruises.  All opinions are my own.

Princess Cruises is back and I couldn’t be happier!

Earlier this summer Princess Cruises announced their return to service after an 18 month pause!  After an incredibly challenging year for the entire world I know I was so eager to get back to sailing the world with the Princess Cruises Family.

For both crew and customers, we welcomed the exciting announcement that meant that we would return to the MedallionClass Experience we all know and love.  But I would be remissed if I didn’t share my very real concern with you all.

I wouldn’t be honest if I didn’t admit that I was nervous to sail again.  I worked the frontlines as a nurse and my mother battled Covid in the ICU so I am very well aware of the real danger the virus presents.

What would cruising look and feel like in a Covid 19 world?  How would it all work?

Over the last 18 months, Princess Cruises have been diligently monitoring the global situation and constantly providing updates affecting voyages.  At times it seemed that we couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel but the Princess Cruises wasn’t going to return to service just for the sake of profit.  The health and safety of both crew and travelers took precedent.

I was impressed with the regular updates on social media with many messages coming from Princess Cruises’ President Jan Swartz and other team members.  The transparency of the real situation and the development of the new Cruise Health Protocols established a new standard of practices that ensures the health and safety all aboard any Princess ship.

I was invited to cruise to Alaska this past summer aboard Majestic Princess and although I was excited I was nervous of the unknown.

But I really appreciated the great lengths that were taken to ensure that not only me and those in my group but all travelers could cruise with confidence.

Although things were different which I expected I honestly didn’t realize how the new protocols truly gave me a sense of peace and allowed me to enjoy the cruise without constantly worrying about my safety.

So I’m here to share with you my experience and everything you need to know so when you book your next cruise with Princess you can do so confidently.

Check Out Princess Cruises – Alaska 7-Day Voyage of the Glaciers (Northbound) – Interior from $899* per person. BOOK TODAY, TO SAIL LATER!

PRIOR TO EMBARKING

Before embarking I had to provide proof of vaccination which required being fully vaccinated 2 weeks prior to the sail date.  I also had to provide a negative covid test within 48 hours of the sail date.

You’re also required to fill out an online health questionnaire 24 hours prior to embarking.  If anyone shows symptoms or is identified as high risk is referred to additional screen ing prior to boarding.  Secondary screening and health checks throughout the cruise is will be done when necessary.  I was impressed also with the ability to do contact tracing if anyone were to test positive on board.

Because CDC recommendations may change, the Princess’ Health Care Protocols are subject to change due to global conditions and circumstances with the virus.  It’s good to regularly check their site for updates which they do regularly.

WHILE ON BOARD

Wearing a mask while on board was an obvious and biggest change to sailing culture but so easy to adopt.  Wearing a mask and physical distancing is required in elevators (no more than 6 people at a time), shared spaces like shops, waiting in line for dining and while embarking and disembarking at the terminal.

It was so easy to follow and everyone followed this requirement.  I never saw any issues with guests wearing masks which made me feel like the cruise was filled with like minded people that wanted the same thing as me: to have a great time but also be safe.  I appreciated everyone being respectful of this.

Hand washing and sanitizing stations were located at the entrances of venues and high trafficked areas all dining areas.   It’s required to wash or sanitize your hands prior to entering any dining area and a helpful Princess Crew member stands by to monitor the flow of traffic and offer gentle reminders when necessary.

I absolutely loved this and appreciated the great lengths that the crew went to maintain safety.  The cleaning crew also was on it, honey!  Any time guests finished dining, the table was bussed, cleaned and sanitized within seconds.  It was really impressive to see.

There is also no self serving while board which I feel is such a game changer and honestly think should be standard practice.  This service is so nice and appreciated especially for any of you that are like me and totally wigged out by buffets in general.

Not only does it maintains safety but prevents unnecessary food waste.

I regularly saw cleaning crews wiping down tables and chairs in public areas too.  Our staterooms were also regularly cleaned using disinfectant proven to quickly kill the coronavirus.  It was so refreshing to come back from a day at port to our stateroom sparkling and smelling so clean.

MedallionClass Ships, Princess Cruise, Ocean Medallion

I can’t tell you enough how grateful I was to experience this Alaskan cruise with Princess.  They went over and beyond to make all of their guests feel and be safe and I can’t wait to cruise again.  Did you know Princess Cruises is debuting a new Medallion Class ship in just a couple of weeks, Enchanted Princess?!  The return to cruising is cause for celebrating and I can’t wait to see how Princess Cruises continues to be innovators not only in technology but safety.
