Feeling Sexy in my Two Piece Polka Dot Leith Set

I’m a big believer that modest fashion can be stylish and dare I say, sexy.

My goal in writing this post is not to make anyone who disagrees with me feel bad about their choices of dress but instead to start the conversation of challenging the idea of what is sexy or beautiful by simply being true to yourself even if that means baring no midriff or cleavage.

To be honest, over the years I felt the pressure to wear daring styles that showed more skin than I’m comfortable with.

You have to remember I was 23 when I started blogging.  I wanted my outfits to make an impression so of course there are some cringe worthy OOTD posts if you scroll back far enough.

Personal style changes and evolves (thank goodness) and although I don’t regret anything that I have shared on this platform I am definitely more confident in my choices of not baring more than what I feel comfortable with.

So even though I am more of a modest style influencer that doesn’t mean I don’t feel sexy in what I’m wearing.

Sexiness to me is a spectrum that includes Rihanna and Audrey Hepburn.  I can appreciate both but I personally am more of an Audrey than a Rihanna.

Instead of letting others decide what sexiness looks like or even allow societal standards pressure me to feel like I’m an old fashioned prude — I’ve come to totally embrace my personal views of modest dress and sexiness.  The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

Case in point, this outfit.

I felt incredibly sexy in this look.

Although it might not be anything remarkable or overtly sexy per the standards of others, it was the soft flow of the fabric.  The delicate cut of the neckline that showed off my sun-kissed skin that made me feel so amazing in this outfit.

That’s what your fashion choices should do for you; they should make you feel good, confident and sexy.  Never posing to be something that you’re not.

So whether you’re more of an Audrey or if you’re a Rihanna; you should be saying the same thing to yourself when you get dressed: I look so darn good in this!

Install Day and Home Office Reveal

Earlier this month I shared the big news that I bought my first home!  Working on making my house a home has been, well, a struggle.  That’s why I’m so excited to be working with Levity of Levity Interiors to help create the office of my dreams.

My decision to buy a home of my own has been one in the making for years– 10 to be exact.

Moving after graduation from my hometown of Boston to Jacksonville was not the plan.  I figured I had a year or two before moving out of state.  But circumstances outside of my control brought me to Florida.

New city, new job, new friends.  It was a lot of new and I had a lot on my plate that made the idea of venturing out on my own overwhelming and scary.  And over the next decade I would start the process of getting my own place multiple times without it coming to fruition.  I ended up psyching myself out, crippled by fear and resorted to just making it work with what I had.

In that time I started Musings of a Curvy Lady as a hobby that has turned into a part-time job that I adore.

I love creating content to share on my platforms but the idea of creating over time felt more like a chore than something I would get excited about.  My feelings had a lot to do with not having a proper space of my own that I could work and grow in.

After losing my studio rental space and having to haul all of my equipment solo into my mom’s garage I made the decision right then and there; enough was enough.

At that moment I decided that I was going to buy a house so not only I would have my own living space but a creative work space that was my own.  No need to haul or store equipment on someone else’s property.

I knew once I got my house the first room that I wanted to fully furnish would be my home office.

This is where I would essentially create the career of my dreams and I needed the space to reflect that.  I wanted it to be beautiful and chic but to be honest I was so overwhelmed by the entire process I didn’t know where to begin.

I’m so fortunate to have discovered Levity Interiors via Instagram.  Levity is a local design consultant here in Jacksonville and soon after following one another on the ‘gram I fell in love with her gumption and design work.  Her and her fiancé Clayton are renovating their second home and it’s amazing to watch the transformation.

One day I decided to email Levity and ask if she would be interested in helping me design a room in my new home.

No answer.  

Crickets.

Nada.

A whole week went by.  I was bummed but could understand why.  We’re all just so busy.

But I decided to send her a DM just to follow up on the initial email and after just a few moments later, Levity wrote back with an astounding yes!  She was so excited to want to collaborate and I was so surprised she said yes.

We immediately got to work starting with answering a design questionnaire and pulling ideas onto a Pinterest board.  Levity drafted a design board and after one revision we had our final draft ready to implement.

I am just over the moon with the final result.  It’s beautiful, chic, romantic, feminine and perfectly cozy.

This office means so much more than just a work space.  This is where I’m going to make my dreams a reality.  I’m so thankful to Levity for taking the thoughts runnings around in my head and helping me create this perfect creative space.

Princess Cruises | Island Vibes Only

Among all the ports I visited while cruising aboard Caribbean Princess was in Roatan, Honduras.

Once we easily disembarked the ship with a tap of my Ocean Medallion, Carley and I took a 30 minute ride to the island of Big French Key.  I share more of my love of the island in a previous post here.

After spending a few hours exploring the island and having lunch I found a two story deck with lounge chairs overlooking the water that was absolutely breathtaking and empty.

I quickly took advantage and  snapped a few photos.

Changing outfits on a tropical island was no easy feat but I’m glad I did because those views were too good too miss.

Modern Day Vintage Inspired Look

Timeless black and white gets a little modern update in this warm weather glam look.

Over the years I have expressed my love and adoration for plus size brands that just get it.  They create styles and designs that are classic, trendy and modern for the plus size woman.  I can’t fan girl enough over my love for Eloquii.

Ever since they stepped on the scene as an independent brand they have been killing the plus size fashion game dropping a new collection for what seems like on a weekly basis.

My head is left spinning from all the gorgeous lush fashion in the best possible way.

So let’s get into this look, shall we?

For one, it has to be one of my favorites so far this year.  It’s feminine, classic and subtly sexy.

At Sea with Princess Cruises

The vibe on sea days on Caribbean Princess are a totally different than on port days.  Port days can start early and run long —  depending on if you want to spend the majority of your time on the island.  Some people actually opt to stay on the ship the entire 7 days!  Whatever tickles your fancy.

For my friend Carley and I, days at sea were much more slower and chill.  It was a nice balance and contrast to our busy port days.

We took full advantage of sleeping in, room service with our MedallionClass Experience, spa days, some R+R at The Sanctuary and eating all of the food and exploring the ship that seemed to have something new to see each day.

By the end of the cruise we had a few favorite places bars and bartenders that remembered our names and our favorite drinks.

Skywalkers Nightclub is a must if you love a goodnight of dancing.  We also experienced some amazing live entertainment — the performers had legit real vocals.

Of all the places we discovered through our OceanCompass app my favorite place honestly on the entire ship was our balcony.  We could just sit out there all day and be perfectly content watching the waves crash into each other.

The views and sunsets were absolutely breathtaking and there is nothing like eating breakfast with only ocean surrounding you and fresh sea breeze in your hair.  I will never forget those mornings.

With a few taps on my OceanNow app I could keep the balcony chill vibes going and order a margarita or two and have it delivered right to me.

I couldn’t get over how the apps just elevated my cruise experience and good news is that Princess Cruises just announced that the MedallionClass Experience is coming to 6 new ships in 2020!  That means more opportunities and countries to visit with your Medallion and come back new.

Beach Day in Big French Key, Roatan

My favorite port while traveling the Caribbean with Princess Cruises has to be Roatan, Honduras.

Once we disembarked Caribbean Princess we boarded a smaller boat to the tiny island that is called Big French Key.  It was absolutely charming and so beautiful.

It was private so not a lot of tourists and the water just perfect — crystal blue and warm.

We were welcomed to the island with a cold refreshing drink and served the most delicious lunch under a tiki hut where reggae played in the background.  It was a vibe.

After exploring the island and taking a few pictures we just had to get in that beautiful water.  The rest of the afternoon involved wading in the water and doing absolutely nothing.  It was glorious.

The day on Big French Key was short but packed full of beauty, charm and delicious frozen margaritas.  I definitely feel that I need to visit Roatan to immerse myself in the culture and rhythm of the island for more than a day.

Traveling back to Caribbean Princess I made new friends aboard our boat leaving the island.  We laughed and talked about our travels over more rum punch.  We also talked about our favorite places to eat while on board this shop.  Believe me, this is important information to swap!

Tired from the sun we embarked the ship to get ready for dinner and a good nights sleep.  Vacationing is tiring but you come back new.

Summer Love | New Styles from EV1 by Ellen Degeneres

Alexa, play Justin Timberlake’s Summer Love.

I’m ready for everything summer has to offer me this season, maybe even a summer romance?

I’m trying to set myself up for success.  One way I’m doing that is being open to the idea of love.

I’m working on actually going out more and meeting new people.

People may think because I’m a blogger I must be surrounded by people all the time with plenty of opportunities to meet “the one’.

This may appear to be true at times, like during events and on social.  But in all honesty I’m usually rolling solo to events and I have no issue with it.

Which brings me to my problem:  I’ve become way to comfortable staying at home with a marathon of murder mysteries on Investigation Discovery.  I can’t help that I enjoy my own company!

If you’ve dated in the last 5 years, you know it’s sucks.  I just want to skip all of the awkward parts and jump right into the relationship part.

Can’t my Mr. Right just come and knock on my door, ready for monogamy, commitment, supports the idea of me keeping my last name and has the intense desire to wear matching couple outfits?

No?

Okay, I know you have to be willing to do the work, and that work starts with me.

Taking the time to know what I want and what I definitely don’t want.

Taking my singleness as a time of refinement so that when I do meet my person, I am the best possible version of myself I can be.  Hopefully he’s doing the same out there too.

Shoot, he better…

Anyway I’m turning over a new leaf and wrote down some personal short-term and longterm goals in my journal to see if I can breakout of my single-not-willing-to-mingle bad habits.

Cruisin’ the Caribbean with Princess Cruises MedallionClass™

Are you a cruiser?  What do you think of when you first hear the word, cruise?  You definitely might have your reservations but I can say I am officially a bonafide cruiser and I can’t wait for my next one!

I recently sailed the Caribbean for a week with Princess Cruises aboard their Caribbean Princess to Grand Cayman, Roatan, Belize City and Cozumel!

Here’s the breakdown of my trip.

DAY 1 • Arrive at Fort Everglades Port and sail off celebration!
DAY 2 • Full Day at Sea
DAY 3 • Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands
DAY 4 • Roatan, Honduras
DAY 5 • Belize City, Belize
DAY 6 • Cozumel, Mexico
DAY 7 • Full Day at Sea
DAY 8 • Arrive at Fort Everglades Port in FLL and head home

 

Of course cruising the Caribbean was amazing but Princess Cruises really went over and beyond to make sure that each cruiser has a one of a kind experience thanks to the MedallionClass Experience.

The MedallionClass is a tech savvy innovative way to make your cruise experience personal, effortless and more enjoyable and it all starts with something as small as a quarter.

Every cruiser is given the OceanMedallion — this device can be worn in a few different ways depending on the accessory you pick; a sports band, clip, bracelet or a pendant.

I opted for a bright pink clip — shocker, right?!  It matched my bikini and I was very pleased.

So I got prepped weeks before my cruise right at home with the OceanReady app.  It’s an exclusive Princess MedallionClass app where I could enter all of my personal information and travel documents before embarking so just with a simple tap of my Medallion I was able to board Caribbean Princess and get poolside with drink in hand in no time flat.  You can either have your Medallion shipped to you before your trip or pick it up when you embark.

In typical Thamarr fashion of course I forgot my Medallion at home!  🤦🏾‍♀️  Of course I was freaking out but the Princess team came to the rescue and printed out a new Medallion for me at the Information Desk.  *Obviously try not to leave your Medallion at home.

With so many people on board if everyone left their’s at home it would be a big mess at the information desk.  I was so thankful to the entire crew for helping me get everything squared away to start using the linked features of the Medallion.

The Medallion also makes interacting with your ShipMates and the rest of the crew so much easier.

With my Medallion and the OceanNow app I could order food and drinks without leaving my lounge chair.  The Medallion essentially lets the crew know where you are on board so that when you order a slice of a pizza or an Ultimate Pina Colãda– my personal fave— they bring it right to you, whether you’re poolside or in your room!

It’s pretty awesome especially when you just don’t feel like disturbing your vacation mode on the lido deck!  You can check out my Instagram Story Cruise Highlights to see how it’s done!

Speaking of Instagram — I was able to stay connected, post, share and even go-live while aboard Caribbean Princess with no problem because of the best WiFi at sea, MedallionNet.

Those are the two massive spheres on the top of the ship.

It was insane how quickly I could stream music or movies on my iPad while we were cruisin’.  It was reliable even in my cabin or on my balcony.  Also super affordable — just $9.99 a day when you buy the package for the entire trip.

Caribbean Princess is a massive vessel housing up to 3,000 passengers and over 1200 crew members!  You can imagine how easy it could be to get lost but not with your Medallion and the OceanCompass app.

This app helps you navigate your way on board the ship with Wayfinding.  It’s basically like GPS for the ship.

OceanCompass also allows you to stay connected with your ShipMates too.  You can find their location minus the getting lost part!  We’d set up a group chat for everyone in our travel party.  This app was so helpful on board and we used it everyday with ease.

While exploring Caribbean Princess you will find large interactive portals on the walls of the ship; another interactive way to stay connected.  I  created my own OceanTagalong, a digital avatar companion that follows you around the ship on the portals.  I named mine, Celia the Sea Turtle.

With your personal OceanTagalong you can play games under the stars on the lido deck which is actually pretty cool.  You’re literally in the middle of the ocean playing on a massive screen under the twinkly lights of the night sky.

You can also play location based scavenger hunts on board.  This is a great feature with families with little kids; they will have fun and stay busy during days at sea exploring the ship.  Or you can play a game of word search like me while waiting for the elevator on the way to dinner at the Crown Grille — my favorite restaurant on board Caribbean Princess.
