Talk That Talk

There are different kinds of conversations you can have with people.  There’s dialogue, debate and discussion.  Then there’s small talk for the person you get stuck with in the elevator ( I hate awkward elevator moments).  There’s cheap talk, for that guy who tries to woo you with that cheesy ’90s pick up line.  There’s chit chat – the type of talk I do with my favorite make up girls at at my local Sephora (love them!)  Among all the different types of talk my favorite kind is gush talk.  Gush talk to me is being completely uninhibited about your excitement, love, and sometimes embarrassing adoration about something — anything!   It can be shoes, a new lip color, a spicy novel, something fabulous you got on sale, a tender moment shared with your special guy or the highly anticipated new single from Justin Timberlake.  As you can see the possibilities are endless.  Gush talk usually happens with my girlfriends over great food and usually consists of some squeals, a few “Oh snaps!”,  some OMG!’s and a few arm slaps — I’ve been scolded many times about my heavy hands.  I can’t help that I get so excited that I cause physical harm.  I do it with love & you’ve been warned.  Recently, I’ve been gushing over some of my favorite books coming to the silver screen a second time around; Les Miserables (Victory Hugo),  The Great Gatsby (F.Scott Fitzgerald) and Anna Karenina (Leo Tolstoy).

I love a good book but these are great books and so I’m equally nervous and excited to see the film adaptations of these stories that have such a special place in my heart.  But by the looks of the trailers and critic reviews all of these movies seem to hold their own to be considered buzzworthy.

Of the three books I’m not sure which is my favorite but I’m most excited to see the remake of The Great Gatsby.  It’s about midwestener Nick Callaway who gets lost in the lush lavish and mysterious world of his neighbor Jay Gatsby.  The role was immortalized in 1974 by the dashing Robert Redford along with Mia Farrow as Daisy Buchanan.  I love this movie so when I heard they were attempting to recreate it for a younger audience I thought for sure they were going to ruin a classic.  Then I heard that they had cast Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby and thought this might not be too bad (on my eyes).  Director Baz Lurhmann (Moulin Rouge, Shakespeare’s Romeo & Juliet) should have an interesting artistic approach.  By the glimpse of a trailer it appears to be done in the same fantastical fashion as Moulin Rouge (which is another favorite musical of mine).  So, when is it coming to theaters you may ask.  Well, that’s the downer.  At first they were scheduled for a Christmas Day release but it looks like we will have to wait till May 2013 to see Leo as Jay. Hopefully it will be well worth the wait.  But in the meantime Les Miserables and Anna Karenina will be out this month and feature some big Hollywood names.

Anna Karenina is being played by the Queen of Period Dramas, Keira Knightley.  She was amazing as Elizabeth Bennet in Jane Austen’s classic Pride & Prejudice so I feel without a doubt she will embody the controversial Anna Karenina with ease.  But I can not wait to sing along to the score of Les Miserables.  Do I even need to explain! Gahhh, I love musicals!!!

I went to the library to grab some of these books and brush up on my Tolstoy.  I love the smell of books.  It makes me happy and reminds me of rainy school days when we couldn’t go outside and play so we had to spend recess upstairs in the library. All the other kids would pout and fuss but I would be very content in my own little corner on my bean bag chair lost in a Boxcar Children mystery.  I may be considered a nerdy bookworm for being so overly excited about literature and movies but just call me a fabulous curvy & nerdy bookworm!

I’ve been wearing 4 inch heels for the last week or so and I twisted my right ankle – curvy lady woes.  So my latest outfits have been revolving around ballet flats and flat boots to ease up on my ankle.  Some curvy ladies may feel that they must wear a heel in order to look sky high fab but you can look just as chic with a ballet flat closer to the ground : )
What’s your favorite book?  Has it been turned into a movie?  What movies are you excited to see this winter season?
P.S. Congratulations to Girl With Curves Tanesha Awasthi for winning the Navabi Curvy Blog Award.  I’ve been following her for a while and she’s one of the reasons I’ve started my blog.  Check her out,  she is absolutely breathtaking and her style is like no other. For being a participant in their campaign Navabi has also extended the nominees with a code for 10% off their next order.  Of course I had to share with my curvettes! 1. Thanks Anh! I love what you can do with a chambray shirt! It’s so versatile and I got it on sale which makes it even better! As far as being photogenic — thanks a bunch. I’ve learned a long time ago it’s all about angles. Practicing in the mirror for your best fab pose is crucial! lol My signature pose includes a hand on my hip, knee slightly bent, chest tall and dimple side out; works like a charm.

    1. Thanks Timeka! I totally agree. Most remakes are a poor attempt at capturing the story. But there have been handful of remakes that have been a pleasant surprise such as Pride & Prejudice, 2005 Oceans Eleven, 2001 and Casino Royale, 2006.
