Suited Up

The power suit — functional for the 21st century woman on the go.  I wish I had this suit about 5 years ago.  After graduating college I remember struggling to find a nicely cut suit that I could wear to job interviews that didn’t age me 20 years.  Thankfully the plus size fashion world has changed and continues to change,  acknowledging that big women are not all shaped like boxes but we actually have curves and we would like them to shine through.

So when Ashley Stewart approached me to style a look for a fashionable transition from desk to dinner with pieces from their new AS Signature Collection I was excited for the challenge especially since I don’t usually wear a suit being that my work uniform consists of Dickie’s scrubs.

I paired my jacket and slacks with a flowy sheer top and wore a balconette bra underneath — just a little bit of sexy… also added a statement necklace for some pizzaz and color via my clutch and lips.  This look can easily be transitioned into a nighttime look to meet up with friends for a drink after a long day at the office.  Happy hour should be fabulous and why not dress the part.

This is random but has anyone checked out the new Janelle Monae album,  Electric Lady?!  I have it on repeat.  It’s so diverse and gives you a little bit of everything: Hip Hop, Funk, R&B, Soul.  Did I mention she has a record with Prince!  The album is really electric and eclectic.  The collaborations and fusion of genres in her songs reminds me of Erykah Badu/Lauryn Hill -esque vibe.  Check it out,  it won’t disappoint.  My favorite records are What an Experience, Give Em What They Love, Victory, Dorothy Dandridge Eyes and of course Electric Lady!  Let me know what albums you guys are listening to.  I love finding new artists to add to my library!  Thanks for reading & have a great weekend!
