Movie night is a lot more chic when you’re wearing a tuxedo — a Canadian Tuxedo that is.
I kept on hearing this term over and over again – Canadian Tuxedo to describe a head-to-toe denim outfit but never really understood where the name came from. So I got educated on the matter courtesy of Google.
Originally, a Canadian Tuxedo is an outfit that consists of a denim jacket and denim jeans.
The story goes that term can be traced back to the 1950’s when a famous American singer Bing Crosby was denied entrance into a fancy Canadian establishment because him and his friend were dressed in all denim.
Eventually management allowed Crosby and his guest to enter because of who he was but the story already had already traveled back to Levi Straus & Co. They offered to design a custom denim tuxedo jacket for Crosby so he would never have to give up wearing his favorite Levi’s even in the fanciest of fancy places.
So there you have it! Turns out Justin Timberlake wasn’t the first person to don a literal head to toe denim outfit. (Remember when he and Britney matched in those denim outfits for some award show?!)
Since then the Canadian Tuxedo has gotten a facelift and looks a lot more chic and a lot less country and I found the comfiest pair of boyfriend jeans from Charlotte Russe Plus.
It doesn’t hurt that they are now on sale along with all of the jeans at Charlotte Russe Plus.
They are going to go fast so here’s a helpful hint for online shopping: I’m went a size up in a 22 for a more relaxed fit but if you want a more fitted look go for your true size.
May we never forget…
