Love & Prom

March 7, 2014
The word “love” is often applied to a wide variety a people,  places or things and although the overuse of such a lovely word may strip away its true essence I can’t help but love how love can be applied to so much — after all it is a many splendored thing.  I mean when it comes to l’amour I’m kinda a lush because I just have so many!  But regardless of what type of love it is it still remains significant.  I love my family, my bestie Nataly, a great pair of pumps (especially on sale), sipping tea in a pretty cup, watching Law & Order SVU marathons on rainy days,  and the city of Paris — for it’s many reasons but quite simply because it’s Paris, duh!

“Love” is the only word that I feel that can be use to describe all of those things properly.  I just can’t say “I like Justin Timberlake” because it doesn’t truly illustrate how intense I adore his music, sense of humor, fashion, his smile and hair … I digress — the word “like” is nice and all but let’s be honest “like” just doesn’t cut it.  Regardless of how you use the word  “love” you use it to relay your profound adoration for anything that tickles your fancy.  So go ahead and love what you love, deeply.
One thing that I love is to take pieces of clothing that are usually reserved for special occasions and make them more realistic for everyday wear.  I can’t get enough pastels, sequins, bows, and glitter so if I can incorporate any of those in my everyday dress well I’m #winning.   This dress originally advertised for prom was too pretty to pass up because of the crotchet bodice and tulle skirt.  I knew I had to have it based on those two facts alone.  And since I’m not getting asked to prom any time soon (sad fact is that this June will be 10 years since my high school senior prom) a great way to take a dress like this and make it street wear ready is by simply adding a blazer or a moto leather jacket.  It immediately makes your fanciful look easy and wearable.  It also doesn’t hurt to give off the attitude that you’re completely comfortable in what you’re wearing even if others don’t think wearing tulle on a Tuesday morning is appropriate.

I so appreciate this post! Not only do you look fab, but I echo your sentiments regarding the use of the word love! Oftentimes “like” does not properly convey how I feel! There are various forms of the word love, as well as differing depths of meaning.

P.S. SVU seems to always find its way to my tube =)

So pretty! I love your gold shoes and all the sparkly accessories. 🙂

And yes prom dresses are the best! I love wearing fancy, tutu-y dresses for fun too (although sadly Deb dresses fit me weirdly).

Thanks Laura! Are the dresses too big or too small in some areas. The sizing with Deb can be a little off. I can be a 3x in one shirt and try on another 3x and I can barely get the sleeve past my elbow. But it doesn’t deter me from trying. I always size up and if its too big I get it tailored.

This outfit is amazing! And that backdrop is gorgeous! I’m loving all of the pastels for Spring, and the coral, while pastel, still really pops against the rest of the outfit. I would wear this whole outfit, as is!
