Food for Thought

Hello Beauties — I hope you all had a great weekend and had the chance to be outside, explore and look fabulous.

My friend Renee and I have been trying to get together for what seemed like months.  I’m so glad we stuck it out didn’t give up because we had such a great time together on Saturday.  We took a food tour sponsored by Food Fun Adventures where we sampled food from hip eateries in Jacksonville’s Avondale area near the St. John’s River.

Sippin’ on some clear soup at Ginjo’s.

The afternoon started off a bit hectic since we couldn’t find the tour group at first; but once we found them we got down to business.  We met up with the group at a cute sushi house called Ginjo’s, where we sampled their clear soup and a deep fried dynamite roll.  We then headed up the strip to MOJO’s BBQ — not your typical southern barbecue.  We were served their pulled pork sliders with fried pickled chips.  I suggest using the chipotle bbq sauce — it was so good!  Renee and I would go in to grab it at the same time!

It was soon time for something sweet so we headed to a dessert shop called Let Them Eat Cake!  I love this place.  It’s not one of those showy commercialized bakeries.  It’s humble settings and friendly staff create a comfy cozy atmosphere.  The owner and her 3 other employees whip up some of the most delicious and beautiful sweets in the Jacksonville area.  Make sure to check them out if you are in town.

Since we were late joining the group we missed the first dining location but our amazing tour guide took us back for some VIP treatment — she totally hooked us up!  We found ourselves in the sultry smoky dining room of the Casbah Cafe — a bistro featuring traditional Middle Eastern cuisine and bellydancing!  As we dined we sipped on refreshing lemon spritzers courtesy of Mr. Bartender (I love that guy!) and enjoyed some laughs.

The food tour was a major success.  I loved it so much I will be hosting a contest with Food Fun Adventures; make sure you keep posted for your chance to win free tour passes or cooking classes!
