Candy Girls

Happy Friday!

So for the last few months I’ve been planning a baby shower for my now no longer pregnant friend and her brand new beautiful baby girl.  As Pinterest ideas finally started to become a reality I soon found my storage space occupied with butterfly decorations, table cloths, paper mache and tons of pink and purple colored candy for the candy bar favors.   After all the stress and worry the shower  actually went beautifully.  The only problem came after the guests had gone home which was the massive amount of left over chocolates and grape taffy that somehow managed it’s way back to my place.  I have been using the colored candy as decor in mason jars when I’m not eating it and it inspired today’s look.

Also inspired by the power of sweets were the Novak Sisters – Meghan, Lesley and Katie — founders of the fun candy colored wearable treats of Mint & Lolly.  Originally from Florida, the three sisters took their love for sweets and playing dress up and created an affordable and colorful costume jewelry shop.  The now LA based candy jewelry factory has some big goals I and I can’t wait to see them reach all of them.

Mint & Loly were lovely to gift me a beautiful bauble set which I absolutely adore.  The pastels  hues are perfect for spring! I’ve recently had an opportunity to talk with one of the candy girls herself, Meg Novak and get her thoughts about changing the world one sweet piece of jewelry at a time.

When did you start Mint & Lolly?
Mint and Lolly officially formed in June of 2013, but we didn’t go live on the website until Black Friday in November of that year.  So, essentially, it took about 5 months to launch Mint and Lolly from the ideation phase (about 2 years in the ideation phase when we all had other careers) and 5 months in the execution phase to a sale.

We are still learning in this process, but I firmly believe if we continue to favor our candy-lovers and those that like Mint and Lolly’s unique, trend jewelry, its statement pieces, earrings, bracelets…and we keep trying to make it right 🙂 We will grow too.

What is one thing that separates you from other bauble jewelry boutiques?
Color and the distinct styles of costume and statement jewelry.  Mint and Lolly tries to build their lines within the styles of each of the three sisters: Lesley is more traditional and conservative, Meghan has a more bohemian edge with a side of social responsibility, and Katie is of the wild, urban streetwear variety. This style in fashion blend, we feel, is unqiue to Mint and Lolly.  My sisters and I love color, like we loved playing Candylan(R), color makes you happy.  A candy shop does too.  We wanted to give you both – colorful “treats” in the form of candy-inspired jewelry.

What is one short term goal and long term goal you have for M & L?
Short-term:  Continuous growth /  Long-term:  Build arms from Mint and Lolly that encompass more treats 🙂

What is the one piece of jewelry that you think every girl should have in her possession?
<3 This question.  I honestly would say this:

Necklace – something color neutral or black – any work- I find any of the Licorice Whip Necklaces are my go to…but you can style how you want: https://www.mintandlolly.com/necklaces/black-licorice-whip-necklace.html
My style philosophy (and it can be so different from everyone, but it is mine) is if the outfit is too busy, don’t crowd it with a busy statement piece.  Wear something that is subtle so the outfit can reign and go with statement earrings or Mint and Lolly statement bracelet, instead.  If the outfit is plain – go to town.  I am more of a “Plain Jane” dresser so I accessorize A LOT.  However, the neutral or black colors make it easier to pair with outfits.  THE FRUIT GUMMY BRACELETS ANY COLOR – ARE MY MUST FOR NOW.  I wear them so much and they can be worn in dress-down mode or with a fancy, night-out, outfit. https://www.mintandlolly.com/bracelets/ivory-fruit-gummy-bracelet.html

    1. I don’t know what I would do if there weren’t such a thing as “statement jewelry” it’s very much like me. I like to make a statement with my fashion choices. So when you decide to incorporate statement jewelry into your own wardrobe make sure it’s all “Karrmen”! Do what feels comfortable to you! Thanks for stopping by! : )
