Each day is a new opportunity to do and be better regardless of our current circumstances. Yeah I know that sounds cliché and a lot easier said than done but it’s true! I know I can get hung up on what I thought my life was supposed to look like according to my 18 year old self. But just because the picture of my life looks differently than what I may have imagined does it make it bad?
I hardly think so.
My life is filled with love, family, friends and amazing experiences both big and small. All of the makings of a great snapshot of my life right now. I can’t live in the past with it’s “what if’s” or shoulda coulda would’ves. There’s no sense or good in doing that. And I’d like to think I’m not that naive little girl anymore. I’d like to think that with time and as I continue to get older I continue to refine. With every obstacle or challenge it shapes me into the woman I was meant to be to fulfill my purpose.
I’m not magically going to be more smart, kind, patient, or strong. I will only be given opportunities. The opportunity to show kindness, to be patient and give strength.
I’m imperfect and make mistakes and wisdom is not granted upon us when we reach a certain age. It’s from learning from the experiences including those mistakes and from the experiences of others. So in reality you’re doing kid, if you keep growing and evolving.
So even though I think I was a pretty rad 14 year old I also thought my life would resemble the tumultuous romantic drama of One Tree Hill. (Do high school kids really have that much drama going on?! lol)
I can’t go back to being 14 year old Thamarr. I’m a different girl today and all of my misadventures I’ve had along the way have shaped me into the person I am today.
Alice was never the same after visiting Wonderland and for good reason.
